Renji Sanatorium

仁 (Ren) refers to 'benevolence' or 'kindness,' often symbolizing compassion and a caring heart.

濟 (Ji) means 'to help' or 'to save,' reflecting the idea of helping others and benefiting society.

Its Name

Together, 仁濟 conveys the mission of providing compassionate care and assistance to those in need. It was also the name of Taiwan's earliest psychiatric hospital, which cared for individuals with mental illness at a time when such conditions were often stigmatized.

​Its Past

Taiwan’s earliest psychiatric hospital cared for people with mental illness. At that time, mental health issues were heavily stigmatized in society.

Its Present

The Taipei City Government collaborated with locals to transform the area into a public park while preserving its history. In 2009, the park opened, featuring a building with old photos and medical artifacts, along with a herbal garden connected to Wanhua’s Herbal Alley.
