The Red House

紅, HONG, means “red”

樓, LOU, means “house”

Its Name

 

Due to the distinctive Japanese feature of red bricks during the Japanese colonial period, the entire building was constructed using red bricks, hence it is called the Red Brick House.

Its Past

It was a disorderly burial hill and a public market in the early Japanese era. However, it became popular in the late Japanese era. For example, it was transformed into a theater, and a cinema.

Its Present

Today, the Red House Theater in Ximending has become one of Taipei City's cultural landmarks due to its historical significance, geographical location, cultural activities, and artistic atmosphere.​
