In 2008, the Sugar Refinery Cultural Park underwent renovations, preserving many historic buildings and facilities while transforming into a hub for cultural and creative industries.

Originally, there were plans to build a sanatorium, but due to resident protests, Taiwan Sugar Corporation later agreed to release the land to preserve the Taipei Sugar Factory buildings, the northernmost sugar manufacturing relics in Taiwan.
