Interview with a Lecturer from Nicaragua

Before our interview: We know our lecturer is named Regina, and she is from Nicaragua. However, we don’t know much about Nicaragua, so our teachers gave us some tips on how to look for a job online. The information includes where Nicaragua is, what it is famous for, and what special things are there. This way, we brainstormed some questions we want to ask. The following are our questions:

During our interview:

Lecturer Regina started with an ice-breaking activity, asking us to introduce ourselves. Each of us had to stand up, say our name, and share our hobbies. Later, she introduced herself and showed us her country, its special features, and its traditional meals.

One thing that impressed us a lot was that her country has many volcanoes, and its scenery looks beautiful. Another thing that surprised us was that both Nicaragua and Taiwan share a love for baseball—people in both countries enjoy playing and watching it.

However, we also noticed many differences between Nicaragua and Taiwan, such as class dismissal times, study hours, economic conditions, and lifestyle. In Nicaragua, people seem to have a more relaxed lifestyle, walking more slowly compared to the fast pace in Taiwan.

Additionally, through asking questions, we learned that Regina plans to return to her hometown in about two to three years after her time in Taiwan. When asked how she would serve her hometown in the future, she couldn’t give a clear answer. But we understand that perhaps it is through these growth experiences that she will find her self-identity.

Interview with the owner of Cura Pizza

Before the interview, the teacher introduced us to the growth background of the owner of Cura Pizza. We learned that the owner helps at-risk students by offering them a chance to work at the store, where they can develop pizza-making skills. He also introduces the history of pizza and the original purpose of opening the store to students from nearby elementary, middle, and high schools.

During our interview:

The owner of Cura Pizza patiently taught us how to make pizza and explained the history of pizza as well as the origin of Margherita pizza. In the end, we learned that the owner spends her休息 time teaching us how to make pizza. Seeing her dedication to giving back to the community and understanding her original purpose of returning to her hometown, we believe this is also part of her self-identity, which she puts into action by contributing to the community.
